Higashikawa Hangout

I first heard about a new shop opening in the nearby town of Higashikawa from a friend Neil Hatmann‘s Blog.  The new shop is named Salt and had their grand opening on July 18th 2009. I was unable to make it to the opening due to a previously scheduled hike up a nearby mountain, Asahidake.

Today I found Salt which is a coffee shop and sports shop which carries custom snowboards, Green clothing, gardening items, and of course coffee. The owner  Yoneyamasan and his lovely wife were very friendly and we talked about Higashikawa, snowboarding and some mutual friends.  Yoneyamasan suggested we go snowboarding together this winter season, and I wholeheartedly accepted .

Salt looks like it will be a fun place to hang out, with a bunch of like minded outdoors type people. If you are interested in visiting Salt’s website you can find it here: SALT.

It is awesome to see young guys opening cool new shops such as SALT and it helps the economy in the surrounding country towns. If your ever up this way, feel free to stop in and say Hi. You will find a friendly and fun atmosphere.

WOW! I always wanted to go to japan and see the culture and meet a real samurai or maybe learn kendo. :D

    Great post.

    Be back for more.

    Hi Jpac

Not sure you will be able to find any real samurai, but probably some descendants. As far as learning kendo, there are plenty of places to learn how to beat each other over the head with a stick :)

Thanks for the compliments and your Japanese was close enough, I understood.

    Take Care
