Obama In Japan
So how are most people in Japan reacting to Barack Obama winning the United States Presidential Election? Well the town of Obama in Fukui prefecture is having a big celebration in response to the Obama win. Yes you heard me right, there is a town named Obama (??) in Japan.
Obama in Japan faces Wakasa Bay which is North of Kyoto and Nara Japan, which is about a 5 hour train ride from Tokyo. Obama means little beach in Japanese. The town of Obama in Japan sent the American Senator some local crafts as gifts and wished him luck, once Senator Obama found out about Obama in Japan he has thanked the town for their gifts and support, saying “I look forward to a future marked by the continued friendship of our two great nations and a shared commitment to a better, freer world”

The world loves Obama - Hi Jordans, that is the impression that I am getting, and all of my students also agree that Obama was a good choice. I have cynical thoughts about both, but don’t want to open a can of worms so I will leave it at that. Nonetheless I am Happy Obama won.
I like the you share about Obama in Japanese meaning “little beach.” People each evolve into their names. Regardless of external views, in some sense, we infuse our own meaning into our personal names. We evolve into ourselves and give life new meaning.
