hagoromo falls “Charles Hamelâ€
The other day my wife and I found ourselves in a unusual position with both kids in school and nothing to do, so we decided to take the 15 minute drive, (practically in our backyard) and visit the Tenninkyo Resort and Hagoromo Waterfalls.
I have been wanting to visit the falls ever since we arrived here in Hokkaido, but bad luck would have it that there was a mudslide that wiped out the trail and it had been closed for almost a year. The work is almost finished and the trail is now open at certain times during the day. Luckily we arrived at one of the times when it was open and had about an hour to look around before they closed for the workmen to start.
The trail was nice and very safe, you could see where the mudslide had happened and how they had done there best to repair the hill and install gates and supports to try and prevent it from happening again.
The Tenninkyo resort is in the Daisetsuzan National Park, there is a total of 4 hotels in the area with spectacular landscapes. The walk from the base of the trail takes about 10-15 minutes to the Hagoromo waterfalls, and has to be the most magnificent thing I have seen my entire life.
The falls are 270 meters high, which is about 865 feet and split off into many different sections as the water makes the fall from the top of the cliffs. There are majestic rock pillars that seem to stand watch over this magical valley that are situated along the top of the cliffs.
The place truly has a spiritual feel about it, and makes you feel peaceful as you make your way up the trail. I have created a slideshow for you all to enjoy the sites that we saw on our visit, I hope you enjoy them. Take Care all.
