Boating Under the Influence
Now that the summer months are upon us, and there are things to think about that we might not give any thought to on a regular basis. Everyone is familiar with the drinking and driving campaigns, and they have been very effective in reducing the amount of deaths that have occurred from those who decide to make wrong decisions and get behind the wheel after having a few drinks and thinking they are ok to drive.
But there is another aspect of this that seems to go unnoticed and that is Boating Operating Under the Influence of alcohol or other substances. Take for example in 1997 Arizona Boating alone reported 50% of all boating fatalities were contributed to Operating a Boat Under the Influence. The limits are the same as they are with driving under the influence with a 0.8% blood alcohol limit, and unknown to many the penalties are similar also.
We all owe it to our friends and families to act in a responsible manner, it seems that people don’t take boating and drinking with the same seriousness as driving and drinking. You can find more information on Boating Education Online, do yourself and your friends a favor and inform yourself to the seriousness of this matter.
Have a fun and safe summer and make the right decisions and act responsibly. Take Care all!

Excellent comments about the safety aspect of boating under the influence of drink.
I am sure many boaters are unaware of the drinking alcohol law whilst boating.
Your comments and statistics on this post may just bring home the message, failing
to comply with the law will incur penalties similar to those of drink driving using a car and in the event of a persons death may render the offender to imprisonment.
Worldwide accidents while under the influence of drink cause more deaths not only when
boating, but also from people out enjoying the leisure activities connected with water.
Great post, keep up the good work.
