Red Lights of Life

traffic_light_green.png
What is Life but a journey? How much of the enjoyment, of the discovery within, are we forfeiting by letting ourselves be distracted by everything that goes on without?

There’s a simple analogy for this; when we’re driving, we tend to think in terms of the destination, of arriving. We sacrifice the journey for the sake of the arrival. And yet if we are to enjoy life, most likely we’re to find it in nowhere but the present moment, not in the future.

I think about this for a moment, after years of chasing a dream I realize it’s nothing but a ghost. In the end, if by some reason I do arrive at a final destination, is it not final? What am I to do when I realize at the end of my days that time has all but run out, and where is the happiness in that? Do not waste time while life is unfolding in front of my eyes.

I think of all those moments where I thought I had been interrupted on my way towards my goals and had felt resentful. I had been missing the lesson; wake up! These are the red lights of life reminding me to stop and look, listen and learn. Life is now.
