Now!

There is no such thing as time; there is only this moment, there is only Now. Now is not a part of the illusion of time that we have constructed in our minds. Now is so full of life, so overflowing with Love, so brilliant, so beautiful. It seems that every once in a while we all have “Now moments”. They are moments when there are no thoughts, no worries. Everything melts into one. One moment and we are completely present, our consciousness momentarily awakened. And then we come back out of Now and settle into time once again, back into our minds; the confined and restricted…Until the next Now moment. Deep inside, though, we know that it is always Now, it always has been and it always will be. It is perpetually Now.

Why is it so hard to always be Now? Because we melt away, we disappear into the moment. Only the moment, only existence, pulsating with Joy, with Love, remains. And we are one with that Joy, that Love. Our egos, however, have a different plan. Our egos don’t want to permanently be Now, be one with all of creation. Our egos want to be separate, despite the fact that in our hearts we know the only fulfillment there is is to surrender to this moment right now.

Nothing is worth more than this day. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

As human beings, we tend to waste our consciousness by living outside the present. In the run of the day, our thoughts are so often fixed upon either the past or the future, that the mind registers only a minimal amount of what is taking place in the ‘now’. As a result of this tendency to function on autopilot, much of the wonder and beauty of life passes us by unnoticed. When we take the bus, for instance, we are more likely to spend the trip thinking about our destination than appreciating the passing scenery, even though we are gazing out the window. And how often do we find ourselves replaying the events of the day at the dinner table, mulling over ‘what-ifs’ and ’should-have-saids’ as we chew and swallow our food absent mindedly? In fact, most of us are so intent on looking either forward or backward at life that we go through much of it as if in a dream, with a limited awareness of present reality.

Where are you living at this moment? In the past? In the future? Or are you one of the lucky ones living in the Now?

Take care my friends and may all of your hopes and dreams be fulfilled.
