Easter and Pagan Connections
Happy Easter all, I hope you have a wonderful day. If you are not a Christian and do not celebrate Easter, then take it as a day to spend time with your family and tell them how much you love them and are thankful that you have them by your side.
I used to wonder how rabbits were associated with eggs, rabbits don’t lay eggs??? And how all of this fit in with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So I went on a search and found some very interesting things about the whole concept of Easter and how it related to Christianity and Paganism.
Now first off the deal with rabbits and eggs, well we all know what rabbits like to do and eggs along with rabbits are symbols of fertility and rebirth. Spring is in the air and it is getting time for the crops to be planted. See a connection here? Does it bother you that many Christians encourage their children to participate in Pagan rituals of fertility by hunting easter eggs and connecting it to rabbits?
Personally I have no problem with it, I am a realist, and if the children are having fun, there are smiles on their faces, and the family is together participating in a activity together, then it can only have good results. Forget about all of the symbolism and why we do it. It is making a joyous moment right now this instance.
Some sights that I found having to do with this very subject will give you more in depth info of how the Easter Ritual came to be.
Pagan Origins of the Christ Myth
It is good to acknowledge the transition between the seasons… to take a moment to contemplate the symbolism of the regenerative process… connect our own regenerative, renewing processes. I would also encourage you, to remember this Buddhist admonishment while doing so:
“Delusions are numberless; I vow to extinguish them”
Have a very Happy Easter and I hope the rebirth of the Spring Season will bring great happiness and prosperity into your life.
