Are you a Gamer?

I gave been a “Gamer” ever since the first video game PONG came out, it was a console game that had 2 round knobs on it that youpongred.jpg twisted left or right that moved a paddle up and down on the screen that hit a ball back and forth. After that I got a Atari 2600 and from that moment I was hooked. I have bought almost every machine Nintendo put out up till the Nintendo 64. Then I started on playstation, getting a playstation 1 and a playstation 2. But my biggest love was always PC games, I always felt there was more to them and more could be done with them than console games.

I was so thankful for PC games along the lines of Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Kings Quest and Space Quest when I was stationed in Okinawa Japan, it sure helped the time go by when I had to stand duty at the medical clinic. And then I discovered Online Gaming. My first experience with Online Gaming was with Ultima Online, and then after that Everquest. My first Online Shooter game that I got hooked on was the first Unreal Tournament.

Later I kind of gravitated more to the online role playing games. Dark Age of Camelot was the one that really got me hooked, I played that one for about 3 years non stop, hours and hours a day wasted, and then came World of Warcraft, more hours and hours wasted. One culture that branched off from Online Gaming was Lan parties. Lan parties are where a group of people bring there computers to a central location and connect them all together using routers or hubs, and have a Game playing party against each other.

Popular games to do this with are First Person Shooters such as Counter Strike and Quake, also Strategic Games such as Civilization or Age of Empires. If you are a gamer and have never attended a lan party I highly recommend it. Here is a cool site that will inform you of scheduled lan parties in your area, or allows you to schedule a lan party it will also show you locations on a map that has gaming centers that cater to this type of online gaming enthusiasts, you can hook up with people with similar interests and get started in the lan gaming party world.

There are a lot of businesses opening I have seen around town that cater to this type of gaming. They have banks of computers set up already hooked together that you can go in and rent by the hour and play others. It seems to be a business that is starting to get popular and may take the place of the traditional video game centers that we are accustomed to.
