Broadband Service

Coming from a Telecommunications background I feel like I have enough experience to discuss the subject of Broadband Services.  Now my experience lies particularly with broadband cable.  I do have skills with DSL also and VOIP.  Rewind back to 1994 when I had recently been discharged from the Navy and started to experience the Internet for the first time.  Now before most people knew what the Internet was I was running Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) on my Commodore 64 with four 5 1/4 floppy drives.  I would leave the computer hooked to the telephone and people could call in and leave messages on the forums.

We definitely have come a long way since then. Remembering back when you would click on a URL and go away and do something for a bit and come back to see if the page had finished loading yet, gosh that was painful.  I had Broadband Cable installed at my house in 1999.  It was mind blowing, I couldn’t believe how fast, and being a Internet junkie back then, it was a dream come true.

Shortly after that installation, I got into the business of installing myself and worked my way up into management.  Having spent 7 years in the industry and completed 1000’s of installs, I have just a little bit of experience.  I remember predicting back in 1999 that it was a matter of time and the majority of the people would have Broadband and that dial up service would be Free.

Broadband Cable and DSL at one time had a pretty good battle going on as to which one was the better of the two.  In my opinion I think cable won that battle of speed and availability to a wider audience.  DSL is still a great service and provides speeds that would rival some types of cable broadband. For my UK readers looking for a cheap broadband deal for residential. Check out Eclipse Internet.  They have a special going on now, and if you switch your broadband service that you have now to Eclipse, they will throw in a Free Wireless router plus you can get a Free first months service. You can contact them at (0845) 1224 111.

I always say that if I had to go back to dial up service again, I would prefer not to get online at all, since becoming accustomed to high speed I have no patience for slow connections.
