John Chow.com Review

In a ever changing world like the Internet it is very rare that you find someone to go out of their way to help you out. I remember a few months back I had just started this Blog and had a lot of newbie questions and just needed some one on one help. I had spent a lot of time creating this Blog and had no idea how to get people to start looking at it.

Darren Rowse’s Pro Blogger was one of the sites that I ran into on my surfing journeys, I found a lot of great info on it, but a lot was over my head. I sent an email to him asking for some pointers on how to get my Blog off the ground, and received a response that basically said he didn’t have the time.

My further searches landed me at JohnChow.com. Another great site with very useful info pertaining to blogging, monetizing your blog and inside tips as to what Google is up to. Well I sent another email for help to John and received a response that said send me an IM. Needless to say I was very excited and very nervous when I decided to do this, I mean I didn’t want him to think I was an idiot, even if I am at times. We chatted for about 30 minutes and he answered all of my questions and actually volunteered some info that really got me on my way. To this day we chat almost daily, and just taking the time out of his obviously busy schedule was very much appreciated.

JohnChow.com is a wealth of information for someone who is interested in Blogging and technology in general. He keeps the Blog from being sterile by personal posts, such as his daughter Sally’s 100th day celebration or his SOHO party. The pictures on his site are good quality from the corvette on the front page to John himself at a dinner party.

He recently had asked for reviews of his site in his Dec 21st post, and I figured this was a chance that I could repay him for some of the help he has given me. His site is set up on a Wordpress Blog using a customized theme. It is very easy to maneuver and very well organized with the categories of his posts along the right side. I normally get bored with Tech blogs because they get monotonous, but John puts just enough mix in the topics to keep me coming back daily.

To end off this review I would like to point out that Bloggers get flak many time for monetizing their blogs, and John also has Google Adsense on his, but the majority of the money that he makes from the ads on his Blog goes to Immanuel Christian Reformed Church (his church) and Union Gospel Mission an organization that provides help to the homeless. Good Job John and may you have a prosperous 2007.

Nice review Charles. I also felt that John’s blog has influenced my blogging spirit greatly. Although I have not had the opportunity to talk to him about my blog, I still read his blog and look for ways to improve my own blog.

I emailed John to check out my blog, and all he told me was to put more ads up! Haha well it was helpful and appreciated. Its nice to see John did this for another NooBloger, and really took the time to help you out. Congrats, your site looks great…and a bit familiar? :)

Nice post. It’s the least we could do - Say a few good words about his blog through which he is doing quite a lot for all of us. I have also written a review on my blog at: http://vinayworld.blogspot.com/2006/12/thoughts-on-john-chows-website.html

Cheers,

Thank you all for the comments, Lemme see if I can address them all.

Nik: He is a very kind person for real, some people see him as a bit cocky sometimes, but I say he’s got it to back up.

eclipse: Thanks, also I picked this theme before I found John’s site, just a coincidence. If you need some help lemme know, I have studied a lot on SEO.

Vinay: I loved your site, you had a great review.

Sunny: I liked your Blog, I will be back to visit again.

You all have a Great Christmas and may Santa bring you everything you ask for.

Surfing 2 hours a day is no exception for me, and my eyes see many blogs. But a blog that is worth to remember and that really inspired me is John Chow’s blog. John Chow is active on the web….

Hi

Here’s a interesting video I created to show off the dervishs dance from the guildwars Nightfall party.
The dance the Dervish does is the same one that Christoper Walken did in the video for Fatboy Slims’ - Weapon of choice music video (hence the music used)
