Dream Diaries

Since my How to have a Lucid Dream article I have received tons of email and comments about everything you can think of relating to dreams. Some people say they don’t dream, which is medically impossible, everybody has REM sleep the more accurate statement is I don’t remember my dreams. I also had a large number of people comment on the dream log or diary. So I decided to write an article on How to keep a Dream Diary. I hope this helps all of you who asked about this. Thank you for all your support on the “How to have a Lucid Dream” article.

How To Keep your Dream Diary.

Your dream life can provide you with many wondrous gifts, creative products, awesome adventures, and increased skill in dealing with waking life and a personal laboratory to develop any project of your choice. The party is held in your mind several times a night. All you need to do is attend, enjoy yourself, pick up your presents and return to waking life. Of course, you need to be aware. Otherwise unconscious and tipsy, you will forget who was there, what they said, what you did, and loose your gifts before you reach home. You can develop almost total recall for your nightly dream parties and become able to record and use your gifts in waking life.

Skill in remembering your dreams begins with your attitude, “I never dream”, “It’s too much trouble to write them down, screw that”, you might as well quit reading now and go back to your normal life. You have to value your dreams, accept each one you remember, don’t dismiss any of them, write them down and give them permanent form. You will find after keeping a dream diary for a few months, that seemingly unimportant symbols appear again and again.

First off the attitude just before you sleep is important. Plan to remember your dreams, tell yourself: “Tonight I will remember my dreams”. When you awake naturally in the morning, not by an alarm clock or a child, you are awakening from a REM (rapid eye movement) period. Knowing that you have just completed a dream, don’t open your eyes! Lie still with closed eyes and let the dream images flow into your mind. Don’t begin thinking about what you must do that day, just let yourself feel. The reason you want to do this is because only five minutes after a dream finishes, recall of it starts fragmenting, and then ten minutes after, recall is almost gone. Lucid dreams seem to stay with us longer because we were conscious, but the ordinary dreams need immediate attention and documentation.

Your Dream Catching Equipment

I use a small pad and a pen beside my bed, when I awaken naturally during the night or in the morning I remain still with my eyes closed, pick up the pad and pen and record the dream with my eyes closed in the following way: grab the notepad with my left hand holding it along the left side, you can lie on your side while doing this. Hold the pen in normal writing fashion with my left pinky extended to feel when I reach the right edge of the pad, and record my dream. Practice this and you will find a way that works best for you using your hands as guides. This method may seem complicated, but it quickly becomes easy with practice. Soon you will be waking up in the morning with several pages of scribbly notes.

Many people find that telling a dream to a friend helps them to recall parts of it they might not otherwise remember. Putting the dream into words seems to stimulate the recall process. After you collect your dream data, at your next available time copy your notes in a more legible and organized manner. Write the dream down in a neat fashion recording the date and the place, the dream description, time that you went to sleep, waking state recall or lack thereof, associations to the dreams, and facts of the day preceding the dreams. Drawing pictures will help also if you choose to do this. You can learn a great deal about yourself from doing this.

Improving Dream Recall

You can learn to improve your dream recall, to increase it’s quantity and enhance it’s quality. The mere act of keeping a diary tells your consciousness that you are putting forth an effort to accomplish something and just that will improve the dream recall process. By telling yourself before you sleep every night that “I will remember my dreams”, and the inherent desire to remember will improve the recall. Recalling your dreams and then recording them in a permanent form will provide yourself with an invaluable tool, from which you can contribute to knowledge in general and learn in depth more and more about yourself, not only will you learn about yourself but you will learn from yourself. Doing this, also for some, awakens other abilities that you might not know that you had, I have heard of improved intuition, mastery of lucid dreaming, and help in astral projection.

In closing I hope this has provided you with some of the answers that you have asked me. I am always anxious to hear your experiences, and comments. Happy Dreaming

  5. I strongly recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section. I’ll watch Google Webmaster Tools, and if the links don’t show up after a couple of weeks — I won’t go back to that blog again. Another suggestion: you should have a Top Commentator widget installed. Do Follow and Top Commentator will ensure that you have a successful blog with lots of readers!

  6. Actually the No follow attribute is turned off on this blog in the comment sections, but people who give comments that do not contribute to the blog such as “Great Post” I will personally go in and delete the url they left in the comment section. Comments that are helpful and not spammy get to keep their link back to their site.
